What our perspective is in life, where our focus lies, can make a huge difference to how we live our lives. For those struggling with poverty and debt, the whole of their lives can become affected as it becomes harder to focus on anything else, the struggle to find the money to pay the bills affecting relationships, health and well-being. For those who have plenty, the struggle can be different, the need to maintain contentment or the aspiration to achieve more and better.

For the Pharisees who met Jesus, their focus was on being descendant's of Abraham, learned in the law and dedicated to following all its precepts. This made them struggle to recognise who Jesus is as they were blinded by their own perspective on life.

John 8: 31 - 36 (NIV)

31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”

34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed

The truth will set you free, and the Word of Jesus, the Love of Jesus is this truth. To change our perspective, to put Him as the focus is to be set free from the worries of sin and death and to live a life enriched by the knowledge of that love whatever our circumstances.

John 8: 47 (NIV)

47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

The Pharisees do not belong to God because they can no longer hear His voice within the structure of their belief. It can be hard in times of struggle to hear God's voice, and it can be hard in times of plenty when there are many things that can claim our focus, but to be able to hear the voice of God in our lives is to be a child of God. And this is a truth that our debt coaches and visit team bring with them into the home of each client, a love that can support them through their journey with debt and for the whole of life's journey.

Prayer

Please pray for a client who is debt free this week after paying off a Debt Management Plan, setting aside money each month over several years for CAP to pay off her debts. Although unable to get out of the house due to health issues, the burden of debt has been lifted and she is so proud to have achieved this milestone and reached the end of this journey.

Pray for another client who has made the difficult decision to take the bankruptcy route which will have an impact on their life into the future but help relieve the burden of debt. Pray for all those who are supporting him in this decision and for the journey ahead.

Please pray for all Ely and District CAP debt clients, that the truth of the love of God in their lives can help bring enrichment and support even in the darkest times.

Next Prayer Meeting

The next prayer meeting will be Wednesday 1st April 7pm at the Countess Church. This is a great opportunity to meet together, share CAP news, catch up and pray together for the work of Ely and District CAP. Please do come along and bring along any friends who may be interested in finding out more about Ely and District CAP.
