Unless the Lord Builds the House
Many of our Ely and District CAP clients are going through difficult times, both as part of or alongside the struggle with poverty and debt. Our team of debt coaches and befrienders try to help with these wider issues, signposting to other organisations that may be able to help with health or addiction support, helping with income maximisation or coming alongside at a court hearing. The CAP support hub in Bradford also help with enhanced support for those with additional needs and contacting creditors to help ease the pressure and distress of debt retrieval.
There is a wide network of people surrounding each CAP client - the local debt centre team, Bradford support hub, social prescribers and health care workers, housing support, addiction support, foodbank, judges and public lawyers and so many more. The client themselves have to feel able to engage with the process, to make the difficult decisions when it comes to choosing a solution, to commit to engaging with appointments, and the love, care and patience of those around them can help them along the way.
Each individual is surrounded by a network of support and care, and even more than this there is the love of God in the heart and centre of this care structure. Even when there are frustrations, delays, lack of engagement, difficult circumstances, where God is in the centre, when we put our work into God's hands, even when progress may not seem to be as we would wish or outcomes not as expected, God has it in hand and is in every part of the process, even those that we can't see.
Psalm 127
A song of ascents. Of Solomon.
1 Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labour in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
2 In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to those he loves.

Ely and District CAP News
30k for 30 years
Christians Against Poverty is 30 years old this year, and we have joined the challenge to walk 30k and raise money for CAP! We will aim to walk 30k from Ely to Cambridge on Saturday 24th October. To sponsor the team head to our JustGiving page:
Prayer
Please pray for all our Ely and District CAP clients and those like them struggling with poverty and debt, that they would know the network of love and care that surrounds them. Give thanks for the knowledge of God's love that the Ely and District CAP team bring into the lives of our clients.
Please pray for the team walking next Saturday, for good weather and fitness to be able to meet the 30k challenge and help raise money to support the Bradford Hub and celebrate 30 years of CAP.
Pray that we would be able to put our work into God's hands, to know that with His love and care the labour is not in vain but all part of building God's Kingdom here in our community.
