Our Daily Bread

When things don't go to plan it can be frustrating - we have been waiting for the final pieces to finalise a house move and still don't know if it will make the move date so we may need to shift everything around. This feels frustrating at the time but when we step back and get a bit of perspective we can see how lucky we are to be in the position to be able to choose to move and choose where we want to be and when we do move in I'm sure that it will be lovely! This is a situation that many of our CAP clients can only dream of. Maybe they had their dream home but due to job loss or ill health they have had to sell up. They may be struggling on benefits and reliant on social housing, reliant on landlords or sofa surfing with friends and family.

Whether we are comfortable financially or struggling, it is always good to take that time to step back, reflect and see where God is at work in our lives, to recognise that His gifts may not be where or when we expect them but that He provides abundantly.

"Two things I ask of you; deny them not to me before I die: Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me," Proverbs 30:7-8

This prayer in Proverbs seems to ask for the comfortable life, not too rich but not too poor, just right. But it asks God for what is needful, not necessarily what we want, but what is needful from God for us to do His work. This is asking for our daily bread, provision sufficient for the day. And Jesus is our daily bread, in Him we have all that we need to do our part in building His Kingdom.

"Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." John 6:35

Resources may be tight for charities such as CAP, but by continuing to step out in the Love of Jesus to do His work, the local CAP teams like Ely and District CAP along with the Bradford Support Hub help share the provision of God - practical help and knowledge of His love - with those in need and helping to build His Kingdom where none need live in poverty because there is ample for all.

For our clients and those struggling to live with poverty and debt it can be hard to turn to others to ask for help, to turn to God for help. But there are so many working along with CAP to help - foodbanks, community pantries, Open Spaces, addiction support, housing support, those lobbying government for real changes and so many more. These and more are all part of God's bountiful provision, the sharing of His gifts with others to change the world.

30k for 30 years

Christians Against Poverty is 30 years old this year, and we have joined the challenge to walk 30k and raise money for CAP! We will aim to walk 30k from Ely to Cambridge on Saturday 24th October. To sponsor the team head to our JustGiving page:

Prayer

Please pray for all our Ely and District CAP clients, for those who are struggling to see a way forward, that they would know God's love and generous provision in their lives.

Please pray for our debt coaches, visit team and supporters for all the love and care that they bring to our clients and that they would know the strength of God to take this wider and deeper beyond the journey out of debt.

Pray that we would all be encouraged that even when things don't work out as planned or to our own timetable, God is still working and we can play our part with patience and nurturing to help bring forth the fruits of God's plan.
