The Spirit Enabled Them

One of the biggest barriers against seeking debt help is the fear that you won't be able to communicate to the people that you are reaching out to, that you won't understand the jargon and the technology and that they will judge you and blame you for your situation. This is why CAP is a unique debt help charity by meeting clients in their own homes, coming into their lives to help them by coming alongside rather than from the outside.

Communication can be a barrier to many things, which is why the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost is a message of hope and inclusion to all who hear it.

Acts 2: 1 - 12 (NIV)

2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”

Those in the crowd heard the Disciples speaking in their own language. This wasn't speaking with an exclusive authorised language of religion, but speaking into each listeners own home tongue, speaking into their own experience and life journey. The Holy Spirit comes alongside us and within us, supporting and upholding us from the place where we are and knowing all our hopes and fears, worries and expectations and speaking into those to provide love and support for the journey every step of the way.

Our debt coaches and visit team aim to meet the clients in their own home, to come alongside them wherever they are and whatever their situation and to be there to provide love and support for the whole of the journey out of debt. And more, to bring the message of the presence of the Hoy Spirit to those who are suffering as the disciples did at Pentecost, to bring a help, love and support for all of life's journey.

Prayer

Please pray for all our CAP clients who are struggling with barriers such as communication, struggling with language barriers or the need for technical skills to access the help that they need. Pray that CAP can help them get around these obstacles and be able to come alongside them for their journey out of debt.

Pray for the CAP Sunday service at St Mary's on 31st May, that this would be a great opportunity to tell the congregation about the work of Ely and District CAP and demonstrate just this one kind of Kingdom work going on in our community.
